Unit standards 119650 and 119651
Rifles are two different jobs in one word. A manual-operated rifle — bolt action, lever, single shot — is the hunter’s and the target shooter’s tool. A self-loading rifle cycles itself, and carries a different set of habits and a different unit standard.
We train both, and they are assessed separately: 119651 for manual-operated and 119650 for self-loading. If you want both on your competency, both are done here.
The day covers the law, the mechanics, safe handling and real live fire — including zeroing, so you leave knowing your rifle actually shoots where you are looking.
The codes this training is assessed against — the same codes that appear on your certificate and on the SAPS training register.

A manual-operated rifle needs you to work the action for every shot — a bolt action is the common example. A self-loading rifle cycles the action itself using the energy of the shot. They are separate unit standards and separate licence categories.
