Where the live fire happens
All of our live-fire training runs at False Bay Firearm Shooting Range in Glencairn, on the False Bay coast between Simon’s Town and Fish Hoek. It is one of the oldest and best-known ranges in the Cape.
This is not an arrangement of convenience. Our SAPS accreditation carries a condition printed on the certificate itself: practical training involving actual firing may only be conducted at an accredited shooting range. False Bay is that range for us, under a standing memorandum of understanding.
Regulation 21 runs here every Thursday. Handgun, shotgun, self-loading rifle and manual-operated rifle. Bookings are essential — the range has a finite number of firing points and Thursdays fill.
Glencairn sits on the M4 between Fish Hoek and Simon’s Town. From the northern suburbs allow around an hour; from the City Bowl, forty-five minutes on a good day. From Muizenberg or Fish Hoek it is a short drive down the coast.
Come early rather than exactly on time. The safety brief starts when it starts, and a firing point that is not filled at the start of a relay is a firing point you have paid for and not used.
You sign in, and your firearm and licence are checked. Everyone gets the same safety brief regardless of experience — instructors included. Firearms stay unloaded and pointed downrange until the line is called hot.
Then you shoot in relays, with an instructor on the line correcting as you go. Between relays you score, patch targets and get told what went wrong and how to fix it. Nobody is left to work it out alone.
It is louder than you expect, and the first shot always surprises people. By the third relay nobody notices.
ID, your firearm and its licence, your ammunition, eye and ear protection, closed shoes and a shirt that closes at the neck — hot brass finds every gap it can. A cap keeps it off your face.

The theory and assessment work can be done at our Milnerton training centre and the live fire at False Bay. Tell us where you are coming from and we will arrange the day sensibly.
